I think if we sit back then Arsenal will pick us off as they have a lot of quality footballers who are more than capable of doing that.
The one major weakness they have, when you compare to Chelsea or Man City, is their defence. I seriously believe if we attack them a bit today we'll get some joy because defence is probably the weakest area of their team. If we sit back then we'll get picked off and get beat 3 or 4.

A lot depends on kouyate IMO...if he bosses the midfield then we will come out the game with something. The one thing arsenal offer you is a toe to toe attacking game home or away.

Exactly. I was just about to say that if Swansea can give Chelsea a game then there's no reason we can't run Arsenal close.
If we lose, no massive deal as we were not expected to get anything anyway but if we get a draw or victory then that's a bonus. As long as we've had a go and played well.

Very very unlikely we will get anything but as others say, we need to go there and for once give them a game.
We need to get more than 20% possession, create more than 1 or 2 half chances, press and close them asap when they are in possession and be tight / compact at the back and just in front of the back four.
The key may well be out ability to handle the counter attack if we do make more effort to attack them than in the last 10 seasons.
But anyone expecting a win is naturally filled with new season optimism, relief that BFS has gone and have forgotten most of the last 20 years.
We are Giroud favourite team to play against too.

Agree bard, that's the only way we can get something, I don't rate their defence and we have to get around them and cause problems. If we sit back like we normally do then it will be the same old story.

Agree with Vexed we have to give this a go from the off, if we just file back into a 4-5-1, full backs staying close the CBs and play for damage limitation then I'll be gutted.
You want Sakho and Zarate buzzing all over mertsacker, cress ell making their right back defend and kouyate going beyond the strikers.

Got to offer some offensive threat...have not seen anything outstanding pre season. Going there for a draw will see us losing by loads. We need to be able to create at least half a dozen chances.
First 45 mins will be crucial.

Best time to be aggressive first game of the season before they are in their stride.
If we come flying out of the blocks we could catch them cold.

Aren't Arsenal usually a bit shit first game of season? Lost at home to Villa a couple of seasons ago.
That said, they will batter us.
